While classically trained in both the fine and the baking arts, Ron incorporates the principles of contemporary pastry arts into his work. His cakes do not have any artificial or inedible materials, such as plastic columns. He artfully manipulates sugar to achieve even the most challenging shape, form, or configurations - a replica of an Art Deco building; a cupola-domed Russian Church; a model of the Taj Mahal; and enchanted-looking castle. His sugar flowers are legendary, so natural that they are often mistaken for blossoms.
Fashion, along with architecture and nature, is a major influence in Ron's work. Elements of a bride's dress design are often reflected in her finished cake. Ever mindful traditions, Rob will incorporate facets of family heritage, ceremony details, or cultural/ethnic customs into the cake design. |
